Do you know how to discipline an angry child? As Christian parents, one way we can discipline our children and help them deal with their anger problem is to teach them the difference between righteous and sinful anger. In this video we discuss how to tell if your anger is righteous or sinful. Below are verses that are referenced in the video. We learn the following principles.
1) God experiences righteous anger on a daily basis.
Psalm 7:11 – “God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day.” (NKJV)
2) God’s righteous anger and wrath is directed towards ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.
Romans 1:18 – “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” (ESV)
3) It is possible for humans to experience righteous anger.
Ephesians 4:26 – “Be angry and do not sin; Do not let the sun go down on your anger.” (ESV)
4) Sinful anger is very serious in the sight of God.
Galatians 6:19-21 – “Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, ENMITY, STRIFE, jealousy, FITS OF ANGER, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that THOSE WHO DO SUCH THINGS WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD.”
5) Sinful anger is about my personal desires rather than God’s desires.
James 4:1-2 – “What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel.”
6) Sinful anger leads to sinful behaviors.
Proverbs 29:22 – “A man of wrath stirs up strife, and one given to anger causes much transgression.”
