It’s a year of Breakthrough and Glory

2 Samuel 5:17-25
David Conquers the Philistines
When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king of Israel, they mobilised all their forces to capture him. But David was told they were coming, so he went into the stronghold. The Philistines arrived and spread out across the valley of Rephaim. So David asked the Lord, “Should I go out to fight the Philistines? Will you hand them over to me?”
The Lord replied to David, “Yes, go ahead. I will certainly hand them over to you.”
So David went to Baal-perazim and defeated the Philistines there. “The Lord did it!” David exclaimed. “He burst through my enemies like a raging flood!” So he named that place Baal-perazim (which means “the Lord who bursts through”). The Philistines had abandoned their idols there, so David and his men confiscated them.
But after a while the Philistines returned and again spread out across the valley of Rephaim. And again David asked the Lord what to do. “Do not attack them straight on,” the Lord replied. “Instead, circle around behind and attack them near the poplar trees. When you hear a sound like marching feet in the tops of the poplar trees, be on the alert! That will be the signal that the Lord is moving ahead of you to strike down the Philistine army.” So David did what the Lord commanded, and he struck down the Philistines all the way from Gibeon to Gezer.

1. David was anointed and the Holy Spirit came upon him

1 Samuel 16:13
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

2. The Anointing was what got David in the palace

3. The enemy went after David because of the Anointing

4. The Anointing that breaks the yoke

Isaiah 10:27
It shall come to pass in that day
That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder,
And his yoke from your neck,
And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.

5. The Anointing imparts truth

1 John 2:20 (NIV)
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

6. The Anointing enables you

Acts 1:8

Power (Ability, Efficiency and Might)

7. The Anointing gives you authority

Matthew 10:1
Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Apostles
Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them authority to cast out evil spirits and to heal every kind of disease and illness.

Jesus is the anointed one.

John 1:17
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
